Today we interred our beloved brother Tony Ribeiro, after he died eight months ago in The Philippines, and his ashes were brought to New Zealand to be buried with his parents. How I wish he had achieved his dream to join us here, alive and well so that we could spend precious moments in his jovial company but that was not to be, as God has called an angel back to his heavenly home. Thinking back, Tony referred to himself as a "smoking angel", and I came across this photo taken of Tony dressed as an angel in a Christmas play in Aberdeen, Hong Kong. We grew up in the 60s and 70s when we used to enjoy The Beatles and The Hollies music. So it is befitting that the words of this song will live in my memory: The road is long, with many a winding turn That leads us to who knows where, who knows where But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him He ain't heavy - he's my brother So on we go, his welfare is my concern No burden is he to bear, we'll get there For I know he would not encumber me He ain't heavy - he's my brother If I'm laden at all, I'm laden with sadness That everyone's heart isn't filled with gladness of love for one another It's a long, long road from which there is no return While we're on our way to there, why not share And the load, it doesn't weigh me down at all He ain't heavy - he's my brother. ![]() Rest in peace, beloved brother Tony. You will always be in my heart, and I will never forget that you wished me a happy birthday before you passed away on that day, which will keep us forever close, until we meet again in God's kingdom. With much love always, Zinha Ribeiro ![]() Antonio Francisco (Tony) Ribeiro 5 May 1954 to 5 March 2011 |
