Our ForefathersManuel Ribeiro de Carvalho was born in Portugal in the year 1750. According to Lisbon records, he married Vitorina Maria dos Santos and they had one son, Antonio Ribeiro de Carvalho. Manuel then went to Marcau (circa 1780). Manuel met Jacinta Barradas and settled in Macau. They had a son, Francisco Vicente Ribeiro de Carvalho (born October 1785).Francisco Vicente Ribeiro de Carvalho married Francisca Barradas, and together they had five sons. Our line descends from their second son, Jose Satiro Ribeiro who was born on 12 January 1812 and died on 12 December 1873. Jose Satiro Ribeiro married Joana Francisca do Rosario, the daughter of Carlos do Rosario and Rita Antonia, and they had eight children. Our line continues from their second son, Atanasio Francisco Ribeiro, born circa 1840 and died on 16 November 1894. Jose Satiro married twice. Jose’s son Atanasio Francisco married three times. On 10 December 1862 at the age of 22, he married his first wife Faustina Maria Martina. She was the daughter of Ramon and Antonia Josefa Martina. They had five children. My great grandfather Francisco IIdefonso Ribeiro, born 23 January 1864, was the eldest. Great grandfather Francisco Ildefonso married twice. His first marriage to Maria Emilia Osmund on 11 October 1885 produced one daughter Faustina Felicia who was born on 23 December 1885 and died on 16 March 1958. Fautina married Edmundo da Rosa. Francisco Ildefonso’s second marriage, to Leonidia Honorata Soares, born 2 December 1864 brought into the world our dearly beloved grandfather Daniel Maria de Jesus Soares Ribeiro, the youngest of their nine children. Their eldest, Maria do Carmo, born on 6 December 1864, married Manuel Joao Duarte Alves on 4 November 1911. They had no children. Their second child, Everdina Francisca, was still-born (3 Feburary 1891). Their third child Laura Maria, born on 11 November 1892, married my grandmother’s brother David Jose Maria Fernandes in Macau on 10 January 1917. They had two children. (Grand Uncle David was the son of Antonio Justino Fernandes and Brigida Maria do Rosario.) Their fourth child Francisco Raul, born on 22 November 1894, married Tulia Maria da Silva Teles in Macau on 16 February 1919. They had three children. Their sixth child Edith Maria was born on 16 February 1896. She married Angelo Cecilio Vieira-Ribeiro on 17 April 1917. They had five children. She died on Christmas Day 1991. Their seventh child Janario Jacinto was born on 17 July 1898. He married Maria de Jesus Soares. They had no children. Their eighth child Lucia Maria was born on 9 March 1902. Her first marriage was to Frederick Blore. They had one son, George Blore, who now lives in Australia. Lucia’s second marriage was to Carlos Victor Manilisay Castro. Carlos was born on 26 May 1903. They had seven children. Carlos Victor died of dysentry during the War Years in Macau on 14 September 1942. After bringing up their children on her own, Lucia died in Hong Kong on 9 September 1965. Daniel Maria de Jesus was born on Christmas Eve 1903. He married Ignez de Jesus Fernandes on 2 May 1925 at Rosary Church, Kowloon. She was the daughter of Antonio Justino Fernandes and Maria Agusta Barreira. |
