About the authorsMarie Frances Ribeiro ("Zinha" - Mana)The eldest daughter of Francis Ribeiro and Aida Mendes, Zinha was born in Kowloon Hospital during a spring thunderstorm on a March day in 1953. She attended St Paul's Convent School then Eton College. At the age of 20 she married Alan Foubister, a New Zealander who was a marine police inspector in Hong Kong at the time. They lived in London for 3 years, toured Asia, Europe and the United States before settling in New Zealand in 1977. They have two children, James Francis and Genevieve Marie, who are currently pursuing their own assorted dreams. Ironically there must be something to be said for destiny. Born in Hong Kong that was once named Victoria before the name got changed to Hong Kong (Chinese for "Fragrant Harbour") and with fond memories of Victoria Park and Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island and the statue of Queen Victoria on her throne, she has ended up living in Wellington, New Zealand, once also called Victoria until the Duke of Wellington's visit when it changed it's name to Wellington; a Mt Victoria as opposed to Victoria Peak in Hong Kong; and with the same statue of Queen Victoria on her throne. Wellington has a very pretty harbour - just not quite as busy nor as "fragrant", so it goes to show that some things are meant to be. Eric Daniel Ribeiro, Jr ("Junior" - Mano) The eldest son of Eric Ribeiro and Hilaria Antonio, Junior was born in St. Theresa's Hospital, Kowloon on 4 April 1955. He attended LaSalle primary school in Kowloon Tong until age 9 when his family immigrated to San Francisco in 1965. Junior graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, San Francisco in 1973. He took various courses at City College, San Francisco and Skyline College, San Bruno. Junior works as a Systems/Business Analyst and Project Coordinator for Wells Fargo Bank's ATM (Automated Teller Machine) Division. He has been with the bank since 1976. Junior is involved in the world of the fine arts and his name is well known in the theatre circuit of the peninsula. He is a singer, actor and dancer and performs in Community Theatre all around the Bay Area and is a regular soloist with "Vintage Music Theatre". Junior is a collector of antiques and memorabilia, primarily vintage Barbie dolls, and World's Fair Memorabilia. Inspired by "The Sleeping Beauty", the first Disney film he saw in 1959, Junior also collects Sleeping Beauty memorabilia. Junior also makes porcelain antique reproduction dolls and has a miniature Victorian doll house in his garage. His home has been dubbed a museum. Junior’s interest in history makes him a true Renaissance man. His interests include learning about other cultures, eg Native American and Hawaiian, as well as his Macanese heritage and family history. He has been nicknamed "the family historian". |
